Fall 2017: The 4th Annual SWMS Symposium

Swimming in Confidence- Declaring your Scientific Authority

When: Friday, November 3, 2017, 8:30am to 5 pm.

Where: Redfield Auditorium at WHOI in Woods Hole, MA.

Who: Anyone interested in advancing women in marine science (all genders welcome!)

Cost: We have a tiered suggested payment structure:

  • Free, if you are unable to pay
  • Undergraduates: $10
  • Graduate students: $20
  • Non-students: $30

Once your registration is confirmed (after Sept. 15th), we will send you the payment link. Please note there will be a free option, and an inability to pay should not stop you from attending the symposium! These tiers are suggestions, but we hope you will pay what you are comfortable with.

We also encourage all attendees to request funding from their institution (or advisor, for students) to attend. Any institution that provides travel support for two or more attendees will be acknowledged as a travel grant sponsor. Please contact us if you would like our assistance with a funding request.

9:00 – Welcoming remarks

9:15 – Keynote by Dr. Amala Mahadevan, senior scientist at WHOI

10:15 – Coffee break

10:30 – Panel discussion: Interrogating the leaky pipline

12:00 – Lunch and small group discussions

13:30 – Research Spotlights (short talks on awesome research)

15:00 – Coffee/snack break

15:15 – The Journey to Confidence (short talks on personal experiences)

17:00 – Evaluation and Closing remarks

17:30 – The end
