Seattle SWMS Chapter

The Seattle chapter of SWMS was launched in 2017 to connect marine scientists across the Seattle area. Our SWMS members represent a range of career stages – undergraduates, professors, field engineers, and more – at the various institutions involved in marine science around the Seattle area, including the University of Washington, APL, NOAA, and PNNL. We support women with all types of career aspirations.

In addition to gatherings to meet and socialize with other women marine scientists (SWMS meets), Seattle SWMS has hosted a series of presentations, entitled “Swimming Lessons: Stories of Women in Marine Science,” where senior women scientists have been invited to share their journey with science and lessons they have learned. Past speakers have included: Meghan Cronin (NOAA/PMEL), Andrea Ogston (UW Oceanography), Kristin Laidre (APL/UW Fisheries), Cheryl Greengrove (UW Tacoma).

Please email seattleswms@gmail.com if you would like to be added to our listserv, or are interested in getting involved.
