About our Mentorship Program
Our mentorship program aims to:
Increase the availability of support in all stages of marine science careers.
Foster relationships between mentors and mentees outside of the academic or work setting.
Build a network within the SWMS community.
How it Works
-
Both mentees (those receiving advice/guidance) and mentors (individuals giving advice/guidance) must be registered SWMS Members to participate.
Mentees can be in high school and above.
Mentors must have finished an undergraduate degree.
You can both serve as a mentor, and be a mentee.
-
Matches are made on a rolling basis using the information provided in the enrollment forms linked below.
Please note that it make take our mentorship co-chairs up to 1 - 2 months to match you with someone, based on availability.
NOTE: Mentorship match emails sometime will go into the spam boxes, particularly for .edu and .org accounts. Please add swmsmentorship@gmail.com in your list of recognized email contacts upon completing the sign-up forms to ensure that you receive your matches!
-
Mentors are responsible for initiating contact with mentees after matching. If you have not been contacted by your mentor within a reasonable time frame after receiving your match, please get in touch with the Mentorship Co-Chairs.
If mentors do not respond after 2 contact attempts, mentees will be rematched and mentors will be removed from the program.
Become a mentor or a mentee!
Please note that you will need a membership to access the application.
Still need to transfer your membership to our new platform but want to join the mentorship program? Please contact us.
